Pakistan is an Islamic country with the population of Christians amounting to only 1.59%. Though officially it is assumed that the Pakistani Christians enjoy the freedom of religion, in fact they are still treated as second-class citizens. They suffer discrimination at schools, universities and workplaces. And sometimes they face persecutions and violence because of their faith.
The situation of young girls in Christian communities is especially dramatic. Because of their faith they are kidnapped, beat, raped, and forced to convert. Both human rights organizations as well as numerous church leaders have intervened in such cases multiple times.
The church led by pastor Eric is located in a poor area. People’s incomes are very low. That is why some of them take to drug dealership to survive. They cannot afford to provide education for their children. Until recent times, only missionary schools offered free education. A few years ago, the only such school in this region was closed. But God gave pastor Eric a desire to reopen the school. And now children are taught there not only the rudiments of the Urdu and English languages, as well as mathematics, but they also read the Bible and are prepared to live in the fullness of God’s Kingdom.
Vicky Eric as a young man invited Jesus to his live on May 15th, 2000, and on the same day was filled with the Spirit and spoke in other tongues. Three days later, he got baptized in water. He started attending a church, and God helped him in his everyday tasks. In 2006 he graduated from a school, and a few years later he was called to become a pastor. Then he founded his church. At first, the group consisted of only five members, but now it has grown to 200. He has a wife and two children who support him in his ministry.
Pastor Vicky prays and studies the Word every morning, and in the afternoons he visits the church members. Usually, he meets with every family twice a month. During the services he shares the Word, and prays for healing and other needs. Besides the Sunday services, the church gathers also on Tuesdays for prayer, and on Thursdays there are Bible classes for teenagers.
Life is very hard for Christians in Pakistan,- said pastor Vicky. It is unpredictable. We face persecutions in every area.
How can you help?
Different people – one purpose
Christians are scattered in cities, towns and villages across the country. Many communities are located in regions of difficult access. The most urgent needs in the area of evangelism are Urdu Bibles, funds for evangelistic crusades, as well as for sound equipment. Children lack schoolbags, uniforms, course books and school supplies.
